In one of my conversations with some pals regarding the quality of our lecturers, this topic suddenly comes up; is there anyone from Indonesia whose works has been published by international publisher such as Routledge etc?
This question has shown pretty much of my ignorance, hasn’t it?
Off course, there are some bright Indonesian guys out there. In the social sciences only, my current field, I acknowledge later that Dr. Abidin Kusno’s Behind the Postcolonial and later on in 2006 Ariel Heryanto’s State Terrorism and Political Identity in Indonesia have been published by Routledge. Ah, yes, some works by Vedy Hadiz too.
Some people from my faculty are no exception. I get the news recently that, rumor has it; Mas Pujo’s book will be published by Routledge. Not to mention other big names that I found, later on still, their works in English published by international publisher.
It turns out that I’m not very aware about some bright guys in my faculty.
I found Dr. Abidin Kusno’s book at PSSAT library, and I almost forgot the fact that Abi’s graduating paper— has been published by Ombak—rely very much on this book as to Kusno himself write the ‘kata pengantar’ for Abi’s Membayangkan Jakarta di Bawah Soekarno.
Unfortunately, I haven’t got Ariel’s book. Some reviews, like Sammuel Hanneman’s at Kompas praise it fairly. Too bad, a student like me never has the financial ability to order it directly at Amazon.
poor you. poor us.
nasib dhe, nasibh!
I read thoroughly some of your postings at “My Old Project”. Still debatable it is, subject to further exchange. But I like it very much. You should teach me how to write that good.
